But contrary to what some might be thinking, Europe is not just about indoor fun. Deep sea fishing in and around the continent is particularly an exciting activity, thanks to numerous charters that offer anglers competitive prices.

Spain

Spain has many great locations for deep sea fishing. The Canary Islands, which include Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, are well-known destinations. Anglers looking for winter breaks will find this place a convenient reach. Species found in the Canary Islands include amberjack, Atlantic spearfish, bigeye tuna, bluefin tuna, blue marlin, dorado, skipjack tuna, swordfish, yellowfin tuna and wahoo. Those on the lookout for amberjack may want to head out in the winter; blue marlin fishers can best sail between June and July, while billfish and tuna seekers are good to go between from April and November.

Majorca is another popular fishing destination in Spain, where bluefin tuna can be spotted. However, its Mediterranean species is known to be endangered, so it is mandatory to leave them in the water. Nevertheless, dorado, gilthead, grouper and swordfish are also abundant in Majorca. Anglers can best sail in this area by summer.

Barcelona, the country’s capital, is teeming with bigeye tuna, bluefish and mahi-mahi. Summer is likewise the best time to fish, with bigeye tunas most prevalent between May and June. Mahi-mahi can be spotted from June to July, while the bluefish is most abundant between September and December.

France

Martigues, found in the city of Marseille, is one of the country’s hottest sport fishing spots. Here you can find various species of fish such as barracuda, bluefin tuna, spearfish, swordfish and white marlin. Prospects may want to check out Quai Sainte-Anne, as it is one of the locations from where boats leave Martigues for fishing sprees.

On the southeastern coast of France lies another sport fishing location, Beaulieu Sur Mer. The area is popular for its dorado, swordfish, tuna and white marlin. Tuna, swordfish and white marlin are excellent to catch between May and September, while dorado is best caught in September.
